Wood is a clean, low carbon renewable energy source that is a sustainable and cost effective alternative to other forms of energy such as gas and oil.
Using wood as fuel can help reduce your carbon footprint and deliver significant savings on your home heating costs.
At BCH Fuels our goal is to provide our customers with the best quality firewood available on the market.
Our fire wood is perfect for wood burning stoves, multi fuel stoves, open fires and wood fired pizza ovens.
We run our business in an environmentally responsible manner and source our wood from well managed forests.
Using wood fuel from well managed forests helps to tackle the challenges associated with deforestation worldwide.
Some factors to take into consideration when purchasing fire wood are;
The less moisture fire wood has, the more efficiently it burns. Kiln is dried to improve its quality.
On average, the moisture content is 20% which is what stove manufacturers generally recommend.
Using low quality “green” or “wet” firewood with moisture content of 25% or over can result in creosote build-up. Creosote is extremely corrosive and if allowed to accumulate can shorten the lifespan of your stovepipe or chimney. Excess deposits of tar and creosote can increase the risk of chimney fires.
Heating performance differs between species of wood. Some species are more effective than others. Softwoods such as spruce and pine are generally not as good as hardwoods in stoves and open fires. Softwoods produce more smoke and tend to burn out quicker, that is why they are not usually recommended for home heating.
Hardwood such as oak, ash, sycamore and beech offer instant heat and burn much longer than softwoods.
